Well, what started off as me turning my 2nd kraton into a talion ended up being just me making a talion ??‍♂️.

By the time I ordered what was gonna be needed to convert, I just had the rest in the parts bin so I kept the 2nd kraton around. It may or may not end up being a super stretch typhon..

Current setup:

Hobbywing max 8 combo (2200kv)
25kg Metal cased/geared servo
Hot racing servo mount
Hot racing brace rod ends
Gpm turnbuckles kit (5piece)
18T pinion stock spur
Futaba 3PV rx/tx

Parts ready for install:

Rpm front arms x2 kits
Rpm rear arms
Rpm front number
Rpm rear skid
Arrma wheelie bar
TRB Full bearing kit

I had to do some fancy spacing to get the servo angle correct after installing the new servo.

have not decided on diff weights yet.

What are some good tires people like for their talion’s? for now, when it gets done it’ll probably have some backflips on it.

Few little pieces are supposed to come In the next few day’s, I will update once I get to installing em. ?

Thank you for that!

Upon further investigation it would appear they also have different chassis. The talion has the servo mounted the long way instead of side ways.

Anyone have any idea why they might have done that? And if the kraton chassis would work for a hybrid build? Wonder if I swap towers, shocks, and body how different it would handle than the standard talion. Anyone done it?

I doubt it would handle much differently. I doubt the difference is worth $20 or whatever it costs for a Talion chassis. The parts are the same, they just rotated the servo I believe.

I was thinking the same thing... but for 40 bucks I’ll just have a talion chassis too. ?

maybe I can use the kratons chassis and some “extra parts I have laying around” to make that extended typhon I’ve been wanting!?

Well, I ordered the body, towers, chassis and shocks... the body and towers came today so I figured I’d throw them on to see How it all looked... when I first mounted everything up I figured out the rear turnbuckles were the wrong ones. Kraton ones must be longer. So I dig through my parts bin and I had a set of GPM’s in there so I threw those on...

here’s how it came out so far... will post more as the other pieces trickle in... thinking of going with a max8 and the arrma 2050kv.

attached a couple photos... one of the silly wheels with incorrect turnbuckles and the rear with the gpm’s.

I think I’m gonna go with the mx28’s just to see how they do. Kinda wanted an overgrown typhon feel.

with the kraton hubs it’s a tad wider than a standard talion. Also has the kraton wing mount.. so it sticks up a ways... not sure how I feel about that one...

I’ve ran them on my typhon on 6s... they balloon... a bit haha. I have 1m in the center diff of the kralion tho so.. I was hoping that would cut down on that a bit. I was also looking into the braiding option. Is that basically just gnarly fishing wire? Does the taping thing actually work?? I bought some gorilla tape to do some six pack tires but ended up selling them because they were just like giant marshmallow tires... same thing with the trencher x’s I have.. they are just massive. Last time I ran them with a 16t on my kraton (before it was max6 powered) it made the temps go up quite a bit. Truck didn’t like em, too bad too cause they looked pretty savage on there.. ha

Morning everyone, just checked the tracking for the talion shocks and the chassis. Should be here tomorrow so I should have an update shortly there after. I’ll be sure to take some pics and stuff. I kinda wanted to get everything fitted less the chassis and give it a blast to see how different (if any) it would feel with the differently mounted servo. I will report back soon!

Slow progress on this one... lots of stuff going on..

But I decided to do this little project to clear some space on the bench.

Swapped out the brass wannabe bearings and replaced them with actual bearings. ??

Also put the front gpm turnbuckles on.

Evening AF..

Got another update for my talion project I got going on...

As I got further and further along I realized this is not really a kralion anymore sooo I guess it’s just talion time.

Put my hot racing servo mount in and mounted up all the trays and misc items.

Mounted the center diff and motor mount.

Also, just from a light test fit and spinning I noticed some metal that started to grind down in my ring gear humps... is that normal??? Included some Pics...

While I was building my limitless 46t diff I figured while I had the stuff out I might as well make a nice 1m diff for the talion as well. I really like these diff cups. They make it easy to assemble and for future it’ll make it easy for maintenance.
