Use equal length fuel tube internally inside the shock on the shock shaft under the piston. This way you can pre-load all you want and still get the same ride height.

This. Nitro silicone fuel tubing internally on the shock shaft works great! I lowered my Granite this way with aftermarket shocks that were too tall. Great stuff to have around.
