Hi there WoodiE and thank you for the welcome.
I only found this forum when looking for "How to Info" on the Dumbo X6 radio setup.
I live on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia and have been involved in RC, planes, hellis and quadcopters for the past 45 years.
I bought my first RC car about 2 years ago and pulled the trigger on an Arrma Senton 3s BLX in April, not into anything daring as yet and have only run it on grass.
I guess I have a lot to learn, so will keep in touch via the forum.

Have a great day.

Welcome! I spent 6 months in Cairns and worked my way down the Gold Coast some 20 years ago. Ok... 25. :D I'm in Ottawa, Canada.

I have a Notorious as my first Arrma and a DumboRC X6A and an X6 with a handful of receivers. If you have any questions I'll be happy to help if I can. :)

Tanks again WoodiE, Without those detailed Dumbo instructions I would have been up the creek without a paddle.
I have set up my Tx and Rx in the Arrma Senton an hopefully will give it a run on Friday. I decided not to activate the Gyro, may try it some time in the future.
You are far away from us here in Australia and you are now heading towards winter where as we are heading into summer.
All the best.

I have the DumboRC X6 and I'm using it with an electric air boat. Channel 6 rotates an FPV camera on the boat.
The problem is the camera rotates clockwise when I rotate the pot CCW.
I know I can insert a servo reverser to correct this but I wondered if anyone knew whether channel 6 could be reversed.
Fred

I did the install yesterday and it seemed pretty simple even for a newbie like myself. I plugged it all in and everything started working already then it stopped after a minute, I reset the BLX, played a little with the trims then it started working again, I hope the new guys are not fazed with such a task.

I do have a question, how do you guys position the RX in the box? and how did you keep it stable?

Is it possible to set EPA with DumboRC?
It doesn't have separate end point adjustments, just dual rate. What you do is set everything to max D/R and trim to the center. Then run through the procedure to calibrate the DumboRC controller. When that is done, do the throttle end point setup on your ESC. Finally, set your steering dual rate down to say 50% and then slowly turn it up, observing when the steering hits the end point on either side. You want the steering dual rate set to something just a bit lower than the maximum steering travel on whatever side it binds on first. Ensure that when you hold the servo full left or full right it is not making noise or flexing something trying to push the steering past it's maximum.

I highly recommend @razorrc 's video. At 13 minutes he goes into setup of the radio.
You want the receiver mounted the way he has it mounted. Flat and stuck down solidly - I use double sided tape to do it. If you are going to enable the GPS it means you can't mount it on the plate that some Arrma models come with inside the radio box as those mount it vertically. Not a big issue, you can remove that plate and stick it to the bottom of the receiver box. You can also mount it somewhere else if you like but I would protect it from water in that case.

Great thread with great information. Now can anyone tell me if it's possible to turn off the ABS feature on the receiver? I wish I could disable it, but cannot get even a clue on how to do it.

Yep, on the Dumbo you can turn channel 6 anywhere between 0% (counter clockwise) and 100% (clockwise).

Do you mean turn off the gyro function? ABS usually refers to anti-lock braking, and that is not a feature of this radio system.

The gyro function can be adjusted as above, or disabled by pressing the button inside the end of the receiver.

If you do mean braking force, that is an ESC setting and it is configurable in your ESC’s setting menu. Max braking force can normally be adjusted to 25%, 50%, 75%, or 100%. You usually want between 50% and 75%. If your rig is not stopping quickly enough you may need to increase Max brake force.

Are you running 100% dual rate on your throttle? Something tells me you are not....

Yes, I was referring to Anti-Lock Brakes.

I know this DumboRC system it has it because my wheels do not lock up when applying full brake at any speed. I've installed a DumboRC transmitter and receiver combos (the six channel) in my Typhon 3s, Senton 3s and Slash 2wd, as well as my son's Slash 2wd. They all behave the same way. The Typhon and Senton are currently with their stock BLX 100 ESCs (Senton has the H/W 3660 G2 motor), and My Slash has a H/W Max 10 SCT ESC and H/W motor (EZRun 3660 G2), and my son's slash has the Velineon system in it. So with three different ESCs, all of them do not lock up the wheels (4wd or 2wd regardless) on full brake. Also, it turns out, the the DumboRC system is the copy of the RadioLink R6GS system with Radiolink R6FG receiver (the Dumbo receiver says R6XG) and one of the features of the Radiolink system is ABS. I assume you would have the option to adjust/disable ABS on that system. That's one of the reasons when I first started doing RC back in August i bought all of those DUMBORC combos (for the ABS). I just wish there was a way to disable it. My Friend and I have been running cars in a very large open parking lot lately and i wish I could lock up the tires to get the Typhon sideways and initiate a drift. Does anyone have a Radiolink system? Any insight on how to disable the ABS would be greatly appreciated. Could it be some # of quick button pushes on the receiver just like how you enable/disable the uhh what was it? the direction of gyro? could it be that simple?

Seems like an appropriate time to link this video: :D:)

I'm Slow.

I've watched the video 3 times. I'm seeing no change in behavior with the Gyro off and when it is on. What are you trying to illustrate?

I think I understand....

If there was ABS, the car would have proceeded to turn left during full brake regardless of Gyro on or off?

Correct. It would have pulsed, allowing the front wheels to momentarily turn and steer the car to the left. But it didn't, hence there is no ABS on this model.

For those who pick up this rx/tx combo I found the below info extremely useful when I purchased. These words are not mine FYI but I did pull from an amazon reviewer. Thought I would share for those looking for info. This relates to the dumbo x6 with gyro.

How to bind the DumboRC transmitter to the Receiver:
1: connect the receiver to power:
1a: +5 volts (red wire) goes to any middle pin
1b: -5volts (black wire) to any pin close to the receiver's edge (farthest from the antenna)
2: Turn on the transmitter.
3: To bind the receiver, find the tiny black button in the hole next to the antenna. Use a paperclip to hold the button down for 1 or 2 seconds. 3a: The green LED should blink for a few seconds while it binds to the transmitter. Then the LED should be steady.

How to turn on and off the DumboRC receiver gyro:
1) connect the receiver to power. The green LED should be lit.
2) with a paperclip, push the little button next to the antenna three times in quick succession.
3) The red LED should blink and then remain on -- meaning that the gyro is activated (both red and green LEDs will be lit)
4) Again, push the button three times, and the red LED will turn off - disabling the gyro.
5) It's important that the receiver be mounted horizontally on your car -- I had mounted the receiver vertically, and did not detect any gyro action when steering.

Here's how to get into settings mode (for the "upgraded" version):
1: turn off the transmitter.
2: pull the throttle/trigger all the way backwards (against the handle-stop).
3: twist the steering wheel full counterclockwise.
4: with the trigger backwards and steering ccw, turn on the power.
5: let go of the steering wheel and throttle/trigger.
6: push the Channel 3 button (below the trigger)
7: the top light should start blinking.
8: now, with the light blinking, reset the neutral position of trigger and steering:
8a: twist the steering full cw, then full ccw, then let go
8b: pull the trigger full backwards, full forwards, then let go.
8c: turn off the power switch.

You must do steps 8a, 8b, and 8c, or else your RC model may not drive backwards, or may not go forwards!

How to set the direction, zero point, and sensitivity for the throttle and the steering:

Open the top cover to find two slide switches, and four knobs. The left switch and 2 left knobs are for steering. The right hand switch and 2 right knobs are for throttle.

Set the top left switch for either normal or reverse steering. (really, changes the direction of the steering wheel). Set the middle-left knob for the zero-point of steering (just point its arrow straight up at first). Set the lower-left knob for the steering limits (start with it pointing straight up, adjust as you please)

Set the top right switch for either normal or reverse throttle (just changes what happens when you push or pull the finger-trigger). Set the middle-right knob so that your model does not move when the trigger is in the neutral position. Set the bottom-right knob to control the speed limit of the trigger.

You can change between ordinary throttle-steering to mixed steering-throttle ("dual-motors" or "tank" or "v-tail").

Normal steering mode means the finger-trigger will control one servo for the speed. The steering wheel will control a second servo which turns the steering mechanism.

Mixed steering mode is for a model with two motors - a one motor driving the left side of the model and motor on the right side (think of a military tank). With mixed mode, the finger-trigger controls the speed of the model, and the steering wheel controls the speed difference between the left and right motors.

To change from normal to mixed steering mode, do this:
1: turn off the transmitter.
2: pull the throttle/trigger all the way forward (towards the front of the transmitter).
3: twist the steering wheel full clockwise.
4: with the trigger frontwards and steering CW, turn on the power.
4a: the LED on top should blink red-blue.
5: let go of the steering wheel and throttle/trigger.
6: pull the trigger all the way backwards (against the handle-stop)
6a: the top LED should change to solid color:
6b: if the LED is blue, then you have normal steering
6c: if the LED is red, then you have mix steering ("tank" or "v-tail")
7: set the top switches:
top left switch is steering normal/reverse
top right switch is throttle/trigger normal/reverse
8: set the steering & throttle
I picked one up but it won’t bind at all. I have 2 receivers and the transmitter won’t bind to either. I’ll stick to my futaba

Thanks DDubs.

I just printed it out. Going in my field box. I still have two more of these combos left, and this will come in handy so I don't have to try and re-interpret the horribly translated instructions.

What radio and receivers are they exactly? I’ve had no problem binding. I just did it for my son’s KEXB and it was almost instant. I have two X6 and four receivers. His transmitter is bound to two receivers, one in his ECX Amp and one in his Kraton EXB.

When you push the button on the receiver does it flash at all? The button is tricky. If it isn’t binding, try pushing it three times to enable or disable the gyro. If you can’t get it to do that I’d say you aren’t pressing the button.
