1/5 scale motor question

Im looking to pickup a 1/5 Kraton EXB next month. I already a have a 160a Spektrum (to start off with) wantes get a Rocket motor to go with it. I was think either a 4585 1100kv or a 5692 1090kv. Just trying to get it to a speed of 55-58mph.

Either should be good I'd go with the bigger 5692 can myself to help keep temps down and 4585 is just a little small IMO. I run a Hobbystar 4585 1580kv in my K6s and it still gets toasty that's why I'd go with the bigger motor

Ok the 5692 have 8mm bullets do I get a adapter or cut off and solder 6.5mm?

Ran great but eventually the motor locked up with dirt inside. if I were to use another id pull the end cap off and silicone where the wires come out and put tape over the rear exposed bearing. I used a 30t pinion and also unsoldered the 8mm plugs and put on 6.5's.

It’s been a while since I had that set up. I’m pretty sure on dirt I hit 56mph with the 30t pinion. motor ran I little warm without a fan so I rigged one up.

XLX2 800kv combo completely crushes the Hobbywing Max5 800kv combo. That being said the HW combo is much more durable in my experience.

160 amp is a bit on the small side. It will work but you will be pushing the limits of it and will probably thermal out with tall gearing.

I know, but I have a 160 laying around. I will eventually get a max 5 to run it. I know it's not wise to "go cheap" On a 1/5 scale, but if I have a 160 not in use, I might as well use it to start off with.

Just keep the gearing conservative and you will be just fine for a while.

What would you say is conservative? Not a gearing person.

What spur are you running?

Stock spur I believe is 47t. Later upgrade to 39 when I have max5
