Just a suggestion. You might have better luck getting a response in the Mega 4x4 section of the forum, which is for the Senton Mega 4x4 and the Granite Mega 4x4, instead of the Senton forum, which is for the BLX model.

there are these Racerstar combos for $50-$60 from Banggood -

But the ESC's are really a crapshoot. I have had two of the smaller ones, both are now dead. I think they are Gool-rebrands.

Then there are the HobbyKing Trackstar combos - I have generally had decent luck with the Trackstar brand, although I have not used there ESC's. A big more money, $70. Personally I would get this before another Racerstar.

Hunter T i just upgraded my Mega 4x4 with a Goolrc set up running a 60a esc with a 4300kv on 2s worked out fine with no issues so far also reused the stock pinon that came with the truck which means you have to use a motor with a 3.175mm shaft. Sells for 39.00 bucks on eBay also check out my mud guards I have for sale on eBay they really keep the tall grass out of drivelines

I wonder if the Granite 4x4 could run this set up. 60amp ESC enough for the bigger tires?

Try 80a esc motor combo 3.175mm shaft in the search box on eBay and you will see just a few motors with that size shaft come up not to many options but the Trackstar one looks pretty good. Because of the self aligning gear mesh in these Arrma vehicles I don’t believe a 5mm shaft would work.

48p is the spur gear but i tried a 5mm shaft on my Mega 4x4 and couldn’t get it to work so i ended up using the 3.175mm shaft motor i would love to hear about someone putting a 5mm shaft in that motor mount because then you could really unleash some fury in these trucks

What did not work? The center to center dimension does not change just because the shaft is larger.

OTOH, most 5mm shaft motors are much more powerful. The 48p gears might not survive.

The holes are already pre-drilled and each hole has a number next to it telling you what pinon to use so if I tried a 5 mm shaft the pinion was too tight on the spur with the smaller shaft gear mesh was correct. You don’t have the option of being able to slid the motor in or out from spur on this particular model so that’s why I just used the 3.175mm shaft motor

That is odd that it didn't work for you. Not saying I don't believe you, just having trouble trying to figure out what the issue is. Like @Jerry-rigged said, the center of the motor should be in the exact same location. So it shouldn't matter if you have a 17t pinion with a 3.175mm hole or a 17t pinion with a 5mm hole. The outside diameter and the teeth locations should still be in the exact same location, just with a larger hole in the center. Are you sure that you had the correct gear pitch?

I don’t know why but that’s why i went with the smaller motor shaft maybe if someone else can pull it off I’d like to know what motor they used because I couldn’t get it to work with the 5mm shaft

Maybe did you by a m.6 instead of a 48p gear? M.6 is very close, but not quite 48p...

Edit - wait, that is not right, 48p is slightly bigger, so same tooth count in M.6 would make the gear mesh loose...

Edit edit, no the M.6 would be slightly bigger... LOL 48p = M.58. For a sliding motor mount, they are close enough, but if the motor can't slide, then the slight difference would make the mesh too tight.

Well i cant answer the mystery of the self meshing Arrma motor pinon spur debate, but i do know what i put in works and now i can remove it and put it back into my Losi 22TLR and i ordered a Trackstar 80Amp esc motor combo for this Senton its a 21.5t 1855Kv with the smaller motor shaft plus its ROAR approved so my local track wont dis-qualify it. I”ll post a picture next week after set-up arrives.

I would really like to know how the higher power set ups are working in the mega trucks. Let us know how this works out for you.

I didn’t like the Turnigy set-up even after i got the program box and tried several settings its just not going to be fast enough on my local track, therefore im going back to the GoolRC 4300Kv motor 60A esc set-up its only 37.00 dollars on EBay and after taking it out of one of my other cars it made the Senton run fast. First race is on January 20th so ill see how this truck holds up to all the other trucks like Traxxas, Tekno,Losi, Team Associated etc. usually there are around 15 to 20 trucks in race field ill keep the forum posted on how this truck stands up to the competition.

Thanks for the good advice and review, I went through the same issues recently with my Axial Bomber. Although more expensive a sensored set up eliminates the cogging and their prices are starting to come down. How are the diffs and other stock drivetrain components holding up to the extra power?

I just ordered the hobbywing ezrun sc8 esc and a associated reedy 540-sl4 3300kv. Was one of the few motors I could get with a 3.17mm shaft. Probably a bit overkill for the esc for what I need but should run cooler that way. I'll post an update once it's installed and run a few times.
