I'll be testing out the telemetry on my new transmitter. It's set to vibrate the handle if the motor reaches a certain temp. It's a Spektrum DX5R. So far my buddy has been using the telemetry on his Futaba transmitter and it's working great. He stops and lets his rig cool down if it gets up near 200 F. Which it will.

I like that feature. Never heard of it but you got me very interested. Keep us posted on how it works out.

It has a wire that loops around the motor. I secured it real good with zip ties to keep it tight. Then it plugs into a telemetry capable receiver.

The receiver came with heat sensors and RPM. I only put in the heat sensor and it also reads the receiver output voltage. I can get a sensor for battery voltage. That's an easy one to add.

I settled on 13t pinion to keep system temp under 200F with Backflip tires. Also have nice motor fan and upgraded fan on my MMX ESC.

Lol. Sorry... that just made me laugh a little. No offense, I'll just have to say, been there and done that a few times. My test vehicle for the telem is an 8s rig, I have 3 Wild turbo fans on it running Casle XLX. I figure some of my buds with Kratons may like to toy with the telemetry. I know a few that like to push them over the limits and run back to back batteries etc. My buddy's and I have been doing the same and just watching the telem rather than stopping. Just hitting the tall grass and if the buzzer goes off... it's getting toasty. Let it cool.

So I ran one of my RC's with the telem on the DX5R. I kept the temp sensor out of the fans direct path. I compared the temp reading on the DX5R display with a reading from my hand held temp gun. Dead equal reading on both. I had the alarm trip at 170 F and vibrate the handle. I can press one button to silence the alarm. When you stop the vehicle... i notice the temp goes up a bit before it drops down. So... with this vehicle I can go almost a fully charged packs before it gets to 170 180. Very simple. I can set a minimum alarm also that may tell me the probe fell off or something. I like it.

I use the Traxxas radio system with Bluetooth app link. I can add sensors, including GPS speed logging module, but it just displays on the app, not the TX. I mainly use the app for easily tweaking of the radio settings, or enable learner mode at whatever % I want.

WOW... That is sweet. Technology sure has come a long way from the days I raced the RC-10 (gold pan) and the team associated 12i back in the 80's... You never found out things were smoking hot till after the race LMAO

I ran mechanical speed controllers with the ceramic blocks hooked up to it. Had a few LeMans brushed motors. Smokin hot 8 min runs.

LOL good stuff vanning as I remember the RC-10 with that set up LOL and quickly dumped that set up. I was very fortunate to work in a hobby shop in my teens. The owner had a picture framing company/hobby shop so I cut glass and frames while he was out of the shop. Having no bills, the owner and I traded my labor for rc parts LOL.Needless to say it was hello to team novak for me, mini servos, carbon fiber parts, bearings, magnum jr radio etc really the best you could get at that time. I did very well in my racing days and was driver of the year as well. Those were great and memorable times with my dad growing up.

I think I've owned well over 100 rc vehicles. Including helicopters. It has always been a great hobby. The only rc I never sold was the Vanning and the 2 wheel drive version of it. They stayed in a box for years. My parents may have tossed them out once I was gone, but everything was in pieces. They were well used anyway. Then I continue to have RC's till this day. I'll use them for a while and sell them...then try something else.

Do you ever feel guilty when you sell nice rc's. Got a couple more I should sell but feel bad for some reason? Just collecting dust, I want to get telemetry now but need money?
Should I just get over it and move on?

I needed another transmitter so my boys have their own. So I have 3 now. I love the telemetry on the motor. Helps me get a much better idea of what's going on. I sell rigs to keep the chaos in check. I can't manage all the stuff. I hate selling rigs off but I'm better off. I myself have one now that works. It's a gem also. Sometimes you got to seek quality over quantity. Depends on how you want to look at it. I myself can't deal with too much. It's too much work. Bashing RC's is A full time job. Lol. I also don't want to spend too much...Got a budget. The telemetry deal sucked....I could not get over it and move on. I could have gotten a way cheaper TX/RX but I couldn't move on.
