Arrma RC's
Hello everyone,

Last October I purchased a Kraton and at that time, my local Hobby store recommended (based on ARRMA's recommendation... according to them) 2 x 3S ONYX 5400mah 50C batteries. These worked great for a number of months when the unthinkable happened, my Kraton exploded. There was nothing left of it, 80% melted. ARRMA replaced the car and the batteries a couple of months ago (Thank you ARRMA!). I would run the car periodically, never bashing it or even really stressing it but the other day, I was at the track (Next to my Hobby store) when after my 15-20min run, I noticed my 2 x 3S ONYX 5400mAh 50C batteries were all puffed out. It did not look normal at all... So I took them to the store and they checked them and said 2 of the 3 cells in each pack were dead and both of these pack were on the verge of explosion. The store proceeded to tell me these ONYX brand batteries are no longer the recommended batteries by ARRMA as they believe the car is pulling faster than the 50C (discharge rating) can handle, thus damaging the batteries. The store is thinking I should go to at least a 60C or higher rating. When I looked up the Kraton specs, the minimum required was 35C 5000mAh.

I wanted to run this past the forum and get your thoughts.

Also I would like to to hear your experience with the various batteries and what you recommend. I would like to stay running 6S with a relatively decent capacity, but at the same time I don't want to have some HUGE batteries which are not meant to fit the car and throws off the Center of Gravity.

I am interested in hearing for all of you...

I just ordered these POWER HOBBY batts, but have not run them yet. I checked the cells last night and everything looks good. 7600mAh 75C and come with the XT90 connectors. I could not pass up the 7600MAH. On a cool day those things will give me 30-45 minutes of run time. In a Skate park I might get an hour out of them. I do have some smaller PwerHobby Batts for my 1/10 buggy and they are still rockin after 18 months.

gensacearespammers is a good brand. Ya I would stay far away from onyx batteries. I'm running them as of now but I check them all the time during runs. I will not be purchasing them again.

I've been very pleased with a pair of RCJUICE /HobbyStar bricks that I picked up a few months ago. They are hardcase 5s 50c and come with an xt90 plug. No issues and am pleased with power on 5s.

Me too! I have the hobbystar hardcase 6s 50c and its a great battery so far. I don't know anything about hobbystar but for a 6s hardcase at 89.00 I thought i would give a try. Great battery so far.

That's not a bad price at all!

Hi JDurand, it works like this: multiple the amps of your battery with the C rating and you know how much amperes the battery provides. So in your case 5,4A x 50C = 270 amps. The ESC draws 150 amps so the batteries should be more than sufficient to power the ESC.
You need to have batteries that provide at least 25% more power than what the esc draws, so 190 amps minimum.
But i do notice a big difference when driving in high temperatures. That's when you really experience the difference between cheap and expensive batteries.

I hope this helps you!

I got the 4000mah version nice and light with heaps of grunt love it. The only one thing is the soft pack tends to get a bit knocked around in the Kraton battery tray
